Welcome to the ITF’s North European week of action, in which personnel from the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) will be joined by volunteers from seafarers’ and dockworkers’ trade unions in a week long campaign to establish and enforce decent conditions aboard ships calling in ports across the continent.
As part of the week teams will be inspecting ships in order to check at first hand on conditions onboard. They will expect to find many vessels where decent conditions prevail and workers are well treated. However, on any vessels where they discover abuses occurring they will aim to assist any crew members who are experiencing difficulties, recover owed wages where appropriate, and put vessels under ITF agreements that protect vulnerable workers offering them internationally recognized working conditions.
Whether you are one of those teams, a seafarer, a docker, a passenger, a harbour official or anyone else involved in shipping, we hope that you will back us in our efforts to protect vulnerable seafarers and support safe quality shipping and safer seas.
The week of action is taking place in Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden, the UK, and Norway.

The National Maritime Section NSZZ “Solidarnosc” and National Section of Port Workers’ NSZZ “Solidarnosc” are Polish ITF affiliated unions organizing seafarers and dockers and representing altogether some 13,000 members.
